Uruguayan striker called up, Corinthians hit ten for 2026 window

Corinthians will have yet another representative in the first FIFA Date of 2026. Forward Belén Aquino has been called up by the Uruguay national team for the friendlies scheduled for early March. The Uruguayan team will face Ecuador in two friendly matches, both set to take place at Chubb Arena Stadium in Quito. The first match will be played on March 4, at 5:00 PM (Uruguay time). The second match will take place on March 7, at 2:15 PM.

With the Uruguayan's call-up, the alvinegro club now has ten players called up during this international window. For the Brazil national team, goalkeeper Lelê, defenders Thais Ferreira and Gi Fernandes, full-back Tamires, midfielders Ana Vitória, Duda Sampaio, and Gabi Zanotti, as well as forward Jaqueline, have been selected. Venezuela, in turn, will have Dayana Rodríguez.

This is the first time Belén Aquino has been called up to represent her country since joining Corinthians. At 24 years old, the forward has been frequently called up since Uruguay’s youth categories and has already played in two editions of the Copa América Femenina.

The focus now is on securing a spot in the 2027 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Brazil. Currently, Uruguay is in eighth place in the South American Qualifiers, with two points. Venezuela leads the table with eight. The top two teams at the end of the competition secure direct qualification to the World Cup, while the third and fourth places will compete in the intercontinental playoffs.

Since being announced at the start of the season, Belén has played four matches wearing the alvinegro shirt. The Uruguayan quickly won over both the fans and coach Lucas Piccinato, becoming a starter in both the Champions Cup and the Supercopa do Brasil.
