Chelsea are preparing to take on Man City this weekend in the FA Cup final, and there are some really interesting team questions for interim manager Calum McFarlane to think about.
We already discussed his decision at the back, where we’re pretty sure he will keep Wesley Fofana alongside Levi Colwill, despite Trevoh Chalobah showing better form than the Frenchman all season. But who will play in midfield?
After a run of games where Romeo Lavia featured alongside Moises Caicedo, the Belgian was dropped for Andrey Santos in our last game. It’s so hard to predict who McFarlane goes with. Santos has a bit more steel about him, while Lavia should help his team keep the ball a bit better. There’s a good argument for each.
His selection will tell us a lot about his game-plan for the entire match. If we see Lavia, it means he’s going to try and take the fight to City a little more.
Glenn Hoddle told Chelsea they should try to put some pace into their midfield to make sure they have some threat to hit Man City on the counter with.
Hoddle also advised Chelsea to not try and sit deep and keep City at bay – probably wise when you consider the standard of our defending of late.
