Spain captain Alvaro Morata admitted that there is a possibility he could leave Atletico Madrid after the conclusion of EURO 2024, but warned that ‘nothing is certain in football.’

The former Juventus striker is linked with a potential move to San Siro this summer to join Paulo Fonseca’s Milan, who currently have a shortage of senior centre-forwards at their disposal following Olivier Giroud’s departure at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

It is understood that Morata is available due to a release clause in his Atletico Madrid contract, which is believed to stand at a sum of €13m.

Milan advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been crucial in establishing contact with the Spaniard and has been cited as the man who recommended Morata to the club as a potential signing.

However, despite Ibrahimovic’s efforts, Milan are still waiting to hear back with a definitive answer, and that situation is unlikely to change before the end of EURO 2024.

What Morata said about potential Atletico exit

“I am fully focussed on the next match of the European Championship, I want to stay calm, but nothing is certain in football,” Morata said in a recent interview with Spanish outlet ElDesmarque Cuatro.

“For now I want to continue the journey with Spain in the best possible way, I want to keep on enjoying myself.

When asked if he could potentially move on from Atletico Madrid this summer after the conclusion of the EUROs, he said: “It’s possible, but making a decision like that is not easy.”
