Bristol City have had a strong first half of the 2025/26 EFL Championship season.

The Robins sit exactly where they finished the previous season, sitting just inside the play-off places in sixth, but this time under the guidance of former Barnsley manager Gerhard Struber.

Struber took the reins at Ashton Gate this summer following the departure of Liam Manning to Norwich City, and the appointment so far has turned out to be a success, with Manning lasting just 17 games at Carrow Road before he was dismissed.

Bristol City have never been big spenders, with much of their current squad being put together for minimal fees, having relied on savvy recruitment throughout the years to climb the league table before then selling on their talents for a huge profit.

The likes of Lloyd Kelly, Alex Scott, Adam Webster, Josh Brownhill, Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Jonathan Kodjia, and Antoine Semenyo have all been sold by the club for huge profits over the last decade.

Semenyo, at the moment, is very much the pick of the bunch, with the Ghanaian forward in line for a January switch to Manchester City worth a reported £65 million, with Semenyo now pushing for the move to be done as soon as possible, as Bristol City are in line to see a fair share of that fee.

According to BBC Sport's Sami Mokbel, Semenyo wants his move to Manchester City done by January 1st, as he looks to make the switch from the South Coast to the North West.

His release clause of £65 million looks set to be triggered by Pep Guardiola's side, who already have an array of talents at their disposal, but are seemingly keen to add the 25-year-old to their roster.

With Bristol City having sold Semenyo for £10.5 million to Bournemouth back in January 2023, the Robins inserted a 20 per cent fee on the profit that the Cherries make on the Ghanaian.

At £65 million, this means that Bristol City are in line to receive somewhere within the region of £11 million from Semenyo's move to Manchester City, certainly a healthy fee that Struber will be eager to reinvest.

His release clause becomes valid upon the commencement of the new year, and all parties, including Bristol City and maybe aside from Bournemouth, will be wanting to get this over the line as soon as possible.

As per reports, Semenyo's release clause is only valid for the first 10 days of the window, meaning the winger's eagerness to head up north as early as he can in January will offer a fresh boost for the Robins.

Manchester City were not the only team interested in Semenyo this winter, with the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, and Manchester United, but the Ghanaian is said to favour a move to the Etihad out of those options.

Chelsea reportedly pulled out of any deal after Semenyo made it clear that he wanted a move to Manchester, not that the destination of the forward matters to Bristol City, only that the fee gets paid.

Semenyo has made his wishes to make the move to Guardiola's side clear, much to the delight of the Robins, who will be excited about the flurry of cash coming their way.
