Wigan Athletic have sacked manager Ryan Lowe after 11 months in charge, following Saturday’s heavy 6-1 defeat to Peterborough United.
The loss dropped the Latics into the League One relegation zone, with the club having won just one of their last 10 matches. Wigan sit 22nd in the table, having managed only seven wins from 29 league games this season.
The 47-year-old manager was appointed in March 2025 after succeeding Shaun Maloney. He oversaw a 15th-place finish at the end of last season but won just 12 of his 49 games in charge overall.
Saturday’s defeat proved the final straw, with Wigan now level with fellow strugglers Port Vale, Rotherham and Burton Albion near the foot of the table.
The club confirmed that Glenn Whelan will take interim charge alongside Graham Barrow while a search for a new head coach begins.
Wigan return to league action at home to Reading on Tuesday evening before travelling to face Premier League leaders Arsenal in the FA Cup fourth round next Sunday.
