Wolves will not reintroduce the Liquidator at Molineux, with the club saying in meeting minutes that concerns over offensive chanting mean the track will not return.
The reggae instrumental was last used by Wolves more than two decades ago, and when played it prompted anti-Albion chants containing expletives. The song remains in use at Albion and Chelsea, and has featured at Yeovil Town and Northampton Town.
Supporters have pushed for its comeback in recent years, with calls intensifying after relegation to the Championship was confirmed. The topic was added to this week’s Fan Advisory Board agenda at fans’ request.
Fans argued the track would help generate atmosphere and reconnect with the club’s past. The club responded that it would conflict with ground regulations on abusive language, acceptable behaviour policies, equality, diversity and inclusion commitments, and efforts to keep the stadium safe and welcoming.
Expectations around supporter behaviour, safety and inclusivity have shifted since the track was last used. The club now works under a risk-based safety certificate and detailed operational policies that require anticipating and mitigating behaviour likely to cause regulatory or disciplinary issues.
Football governing bodies expect proactive prevention rather than responses after incidents. Enforcing standards would be difficult if the club appeared to facilitate likely breaches, and there are reputational risks involving public image, relationships with partners, broadcasters and sponsors, and potential complaints from some supporters.
