The club told the Fan Advisory Board this week it will not reinstate the Liquidator at Molineux, citing concerns over offensive chanting.
The reggae instrumental, last used more than two decades ago, previously prompted chants aimed at rivals Albion that included expletives.
It remains part of the matchday soundtracks at Albion and Chelsea, and has also been used by Yeovil Town and Northampton Town.
Wolves fans have pushed for its return in recent years, with appetite increasing since relegation to the Championship was confirmed.
Supporters asked for the issue to be placed on the agenda, arguing the song would boost the atmosphere and reconnect with the club’s past.
The club outlined risks, saying such chanting could breach ground regulations on abusive language, clash with its acceptable behaviour policy and wider equality, diversity and inclusion commitments.
It said expectations around supporter conduct have shifted, and operating under a risk-based safety certificate requires the club to anticipate and mitigate foreseeable issues in line with governing body guidance.
Enforcing standards would be difficult if the club appeared to facilitate likely breaches, while reputational risks included effects on public image, partners, broadcasters and sponsors, and the likelihood of complaints.
