FC Bayern is letting a young player go. Former Bundesliga manager Fredi Bobic is pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Another departure from FC Bayern’s youth academy is on the horizon. Robert Deziel Jr. is set to continue his career in Poland. According to Sky, the center back is on the verge of a free transfer from FC Bayern’s reserve team to Legia Warsaw.

All parties involved are said to have already reached a full agreement, and the 20-year-old has reportedly already passed his medical exam. According to the report, Deziel will sign a contract in Poland running through 2030—a long-term commitment that marks yet another departure of talent for the Munich club.

Fredi Bobic, of all people, is behind the transfer. The longtime Bundesliga manager has been working as Head of Football at Legia Warsaw since April 2025 and reportedly convinced the American to make the move during several discussions. Bobic thus played a key role in reaching the agreement.

Bobic brings a wealth of experience as a squad planner. After his playing career, he first served as sporting director and executive director of sports at VfB Stuttgart, then spent five years at Eintracht Frankfurt. In 2021, he moved to Hertha BSC, but the two parties parted ways after two years. In Warsaw, the 54-year-old is now rebuilding the squad for the upcoming season—and is turning to Munich for reinforcements.

No breakthrough on Säbener Straße

For Deziel, the big move to FC Bayern didn’t materialize. The Florida-born defender had come to Munich in 2021; prior to that, he played for the youth team at Celta Vigo in Spain. In 2023, he moved to VSG Altglienicke, before returning to Säbener Straße two years later.

On the field, he had recently been making quite a name for himself with the second team. Last season, the center back made 28 appearances in the Bavarian Regional League, starting 26 of them. He scored four goals—a remarkable tally for a defender.

At Legia, Deziel joins a club that recently finished sixth in the Polish Ekstraklasa, thereby missing out on international competition. For the young defender, however, this is an opportunity to gain a foothold in professional soccer—with a manager by his side who has already guided many talented players along their paths.
