Sunderland could face a busy finish as they finalise their squad, with Arthur Masuaku and Dan Neil confirmed out on loan on Tuesday and the window closing at 7pm on Monday.
According to Sunderland Echo, multiple ins and outs remain in play across the final days.
A new goalkeeper was being explored to support Robin Roefs, potentially freeing Anthony Patterson for a loan. Bayer Leverkusen’s move for Jonas Omlin has complicated that, and while Millwall want Patterson, Sunderland need cover before any exit.
Birmingham City are in talks to make Patrick Roberts’ loan permanent. He is out of contract in the summer, Sunderland can extend by a year, and any agreement must suit all parties.
Central midfield was the priority. With Neil’s exit and Grant Xhaka injured, the likeliest short-term fix is Lutsharel Geertruida covering until the summer, helped by Habib Diarra’s return and Noah Sadiki potentially dropping deeper.
Wilson Isidor’s future is live. Besiktas need a striker and an offer above £15 million would pose a dilemma, though replacing him now would be difficult.
Ian Poveda and Abdoullah Ba are weighing exits, but with six international loan slots used they can only leave on domestic loans or permanent deals abroad.
Leo Hjelde could go on loan given defensive depth, while Harrison Jones needs senior minutes and a solution is expected before Monday. A loan for Chris Rigg remains possible only if the squad is reinforced, which currently appears unlikely.
