With days left in the January window, Sunderland are still trimming their squad and several late exits remain possible, while a handful look set to stay put.
The i Paper has reported that Sunderland want to keep Eliezer Mayenda, and it is hard to envisage him departing. Simon Adingra has been linked with European giants, but those claims appear fanciful. Recent minutes and remarks from Regis Le Bris point to Romaine Mundle staying this month.
Among potential departures, Anthony Patterson has slipped behind Robin Roefs and could head out on loan, subject to a replacement. Aji Alese is building fitness with the U21s, and given defensive depth, a temporary move is plausible if he is ready. Leo Hjelde may also benefit from the right loan to continue his development.
Regis Le Bris has kept both options open for Chris Rigg, saying any decision will follow the final shape of the squad. Milan Aleksic, recalled from Poland to facilitate Arthur Masuaku’s switch to RC Lens, now sits in limbo and a suitable offer could be considered. Abdoullah Ba needs a reset and looks a leading candidate to move, destination uncertain.
Harrison Jones has seen chances reduced since promotion to the Premier League, so an EFL loan would suit. Wilson Isidor has been loosely linked with Besiktas and, with frustration over limited minutes, an exit cannot be ruled out if cover arrives. Ian Poveda also needs a fresh start and is expected to seek opportunities elsewhere.
