2026 Summer mercato comes to an end | OneFootball

Milan made their club-record signing this summer, but also struggled a lot to offload men.

This summer saw a significant change happening at Milan: at the end of the last season, which ended in a huge disappointment, the club owner Gerry Cardinale decided to fire the CEO, Director of Sport and Coach – and be a lot more hands on with the day to day dealings at the Rossoneri, refusing to hire a new Head of Football and Director of Sport.

Milan started the summer with a bang, bringing in Gonçalo Ramos for €74m from PSG, turning him into the most expensive signing the club history. Afterwards, Mario Gila arrived from Lazio to give new coach Rúben Amorim a strong player in defense. Sankhoun Diawara also came as a prospect in defense, and then Diego Moreira joined out of nowhere from Strasbourg for €50m. The mercato ended with Omari Hutchinson joining the club on loan with option.

In the exits, Milan took a dangerous approach which eventually did not pay off at all: freezing out players and not letting them train with the squad, making it clear that they are no longer wanted. Christopher Nkunku, Rafael Leão and Santiago Giménez all left the club, but at a discount due to both unconvincing performances in the Red and Black colors last season, but also because it was very clear from the start that Cardinale does not want them.

Youssouf Fofana, Fikayo Tomori and Warren Bondo were also considered out of the technical project, but Milan failed to offload them and at least for now (the market is still open in some countries), they are part of the squad. It remains to be seen if they will be registered by the club for the season.
