Mali assert their dominance at Berkane Stadium and climb the Group I rankings.
Mali delivered a top-class performance against Comoros on Thursday, September 4 at the Municipal Stadium in Berkane. The Eagles outclassed the Coelacanths with a commanding 3-0 victory on Matchday 7 of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Tom Saintfiet's men quickly took control of this clash on Moroccan soil. Before the half-hour mark, Nene Dorgeles opened the scoring with a brilliant finish, set up by Mustapha Sangaré (28th minute). The midfielder's goal gave the Eagles the freedom to manage the first half with composure.
After the break, Mali kept up the pressure and doubled their lead on the hour mark. Kamory Doumbia made it 2-0 from the penalty spot in the 70th minute.
The Malian side sealed their triumph in the dying minutes thanks to Lassana Coulibaly. The US Lecce defensive midfielder netted the third goal in the 76th minute, assisted by Lassine Sinayoko, underlining his side's total dominance. This strike definitively dashed Comoros' hopes of taking any points away from their trip to Morocco.
This outstanding performance lifts Mali to third place in Group I with 12 points, level with Comoros but ahead on goal difference. The Eagles now have four wins and three defeats after seven rounds of qualifying.
