The Blades boss is already planning towards a busy January window
Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has outlined that he and his staff are already preparing for a vital January transfer window at Bramall Lane.
The 58-year-old recently returned to his boyhood Blades for a third managerial stint - one which sees the club in an extremely contrasting predicament to the beginning of his previous spells in charge.
Wilder took over from Ruben Selles just six games into this season and three months after the Spaniard was initially viewed as his long-term replacement by COH Sports after suffering defeat in the Championship play-off final at the hands of Sunderland.
However, he is yet to address the club's current plight, with Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Hull City making it eight defeats from the opening nine league games for the rock-bottom Steel City outfit.
Speaking afterward, Wilder admitted that he's already made preparations for the winter window, stating: That work's already been done. So, yes, there's a document going to [the owners] already.
"I know who takes us forward and who doesn't. And there will be an honest conversation with that. And hopefully people, I'd like to think, will respect my contribution to that and my thought process on that."
With that in mind, Football League World has looked at three players who could leave the club in January amid Wilder's revelation.
The first name on this list is Tom Cannon, who has failed to live up to his £10m price-tag following a switch from Leicester City in January.
Despite being signed by Wilder, the 22-year-old has been a shadow of his former self at Bramall Lane, scoring just once in 17 appearances in the second half of last season before struggling to turn his fortunes around in United's disastrous start to the current campaign.
The ex-Everton man has averaged just 30 minutes per game during his nine appearances so far this term, hardly having an impact on any game during those limited opportunities.
On top of this, Cannon was also the subject of late transfer interest from his former side, Preston North End in August, meaning that a temporary move could be forthcoming if his form continues to stagnate, with Wilder also having the likes of Tyrese Campbell and Danny Ings to call upon.
One would imagine that another striker will be on the wishlist come January, and that could see Cannon head out the door.
Tyler Bindon was previously regarded as one of the EFL's most highly-rated prospects after blossoming at Reading during a difficult period for the Berkshire outfit, where he established himself under Selles.
At 20, there is still plenty of time for the New Zealand international to fulfill said potential. However, it looks like such development may not be aided at Bramall Lane for much longer.
Bindon initially struggled on debut in the 4-1 defeat against Bristol City, yet was still selected by Selles in each league game prior to the September international break.
Since then, he is yet to make an appearance with Wilder operating in a back-three system made up of Japhet Tanganga, Mark McGuinness and Ben Mee.
Therefore, with United stacked in the centre-back department, it would be no surprise to see Wilder free up a loan space in the process, with Bindon returning to his parent club, Nottingham Forest.
Another loanee who could see their temporary spell cut short is Ben Godfrey, who joined from Atlanta in the latter stages of the summer window.
The one-time England international previously impressed at this level with Norwich City. But, after a frustrating loan stint with the Canaries' bitter rivals, Ipswich Town, in the Premier League last season, Godfrey's performance levels have continued to be on the slide.
Despite predominantly featuring at centre-back for the vast proportion of his career, the York-born man continued to feature at right-back under Selles, and has only completed 90 minutes in one of his four appearances thus far.
Godfrey came under fire for his performance against his former employers on September 12th, with Ipswich winger Jaden Philogene giving the defender a torrid time en route to a hat-trick at Portman Road, before being dropped after Wilder's homecoming at Charlton Athletic.
It is, therefore, extremely unjustifiable for the Blades to have a player said to be earning £75,000 per week sitting on the bench. And, after failing to make an immediate impression under both bosses, his spell at Bramall Lane could be cut short in January.
