Wolves are set to be busy in the transfer market, and FLW has a look at four players who could follow Joao Gomes out of Molineux.

Wolves have had a very busy summer following their relegation from the Premier League, with Cesar Peixoto replacing Rob Edwards in the dugout.

With Kieran Trippier, Raul Jimenez and Rafiki Said already through the door, Wolves have had a positive window so far, and the Portuguese coach will be pleased at how the squad looks.

However, there’s a lot more work to do, and the immediate concern will be about reducing the size of the group, as Wolves have many a bloated group right now.

The sale of Joao Gomes to Aston Villa, whilst disappointing given his quality, was inevitable following relegation, and further exits will be required to free up both space in the squad, and funds for the budget.

Therefore, it’s shaping up to be a hectic end to the window for Wolves, and here we look at FOUR players who could follow the Brazilian out of Molineux in the coming weeks…

Jose Sa

The Portuguese international was emotional at the end of Wolves’ final game of the season at Burnley, with many presuming that was because he felt he had played for the club for the last time.

But, so far, a move hasn’t materialised. Sa has been with Portugal at the World Cup, which may have delayed matters, though, and it could pick up quickly over the coming weeks.

Sa has been a decent performer for Wolves over the years, but it feels the right time for him to move on, along with backup Sam Johnstone, who has seriously struggled.

Providing the duo do go, Wolves will then be in the market for a new number one, but until they do leave, it’s risky to add another senior goalkeeper to the ranks.

Ladislav Krejci

The Czechia captain was one of few players to emerge with any credit last season, as he did reasonably well in central defence on the whole.

So, he is probably the only player here that Wolves would want to keep, but, realistically, it’s hard to see that happening.

Krejci has shown he can perform in the Premier League, and his performances for his country in helping them to reach the World Cup will have attracted attention.

His loan from Girona was made permanent for in excess of £20m this summer, and Wolves will expect to recoup what they paid for the player.

It’s a shame for Peixoto that Krejci is unlikely to stick around, as he could be ideal for what the head coach wants with his ability on the ball and leadership. But, the 27-year-old may be keen on moving, and the money he brings in can help strengthen the squad elsewhere.

Jackson Tchatchoua

The former Verona man was one of several signings Wolves made 12 months ago that did not work out, with the right-back struggling to adapt to the English game.

With Trippier having joined, he is going to be the first-choice in that position this season, and exciting youngster, Pedro Lima, is likely to be the backup.

That means it’s hard to see where Tchatchoua fits in, and it would benefit all parties if he could secure a move away.

The Cameroon international has a decent pedigree, having played for his country and in Serie A, so there should be suitors. But, even if it’s a loan, Tchatchoua and Wolves will surely sort something out in the coming weeks.

Hwang Hee-chan

The 30-year-old joined Wolves in 2021, and whilst he has had a few good spells earlier in his career, the past few years have been tough for Hwang, who managed just two league goals in each of the past two seasons.

Those struggles have made him unpopular with the fans, and, like a few, it feels like a move is exactly what both parties need.

Given his age, Hwang would be keen on one big final contract in what should be his peak years, and Wolves are unlikely to stand in his way if they can get a decent fee, and a big salary off the books.

The forward was with South Korea at the World Cup, so he is another who is still on holiday. But, their group stage exit means he will be returning soon, and a relatively swift exit could be on the cards.
