The players set to miss Ipswich Town's clash with Arsenal in the EFL Cup this midweek

Ipswich Town and Arsenal are set to compete in the third round of the EFL Cup this midweek.

The Tractor Boys will host the Premier League champions as they look to progress to the next round of the competition.

Mikel Arteta’s side have made a strong start to the new campaign, and will be looking to go one step further in this tournament this year after losing in the final to Manchester City last March.

Gary O’Neil’s side stand in their way, with the Gunners enjoying a 100 per cent winning start to 2026/27 so far.

Here we look at the players that won’t be available for Ipswich and Arsenal ahead of their Tuesday night clash at Portman Road…

Ipswich Town

Jack Taylor has yet to feature for Ipswich this season after undergoing surgery on a knee issue during the summer.

The midfielder was a key part of the side that earned promotion to the Premier League last season, making 39 appearances in the Championship.

But it remains to be seen when he will make his return to the squad, with the Ireland international yet to partake in training since the season got underway last month.

Taylor will be a big miss for the Tractor Boys, but O’Neil will take solace from the fact that he is the only player in the squad currently on the sidelines.

Arsenal

William Saliba

William Saliba was last seen competing for France at the World Cup, coming off in their semi-final defeat to Spain.

The centre-back was a key figure for Arteta’s side last season, but has missed the opening weeks due to a back issue.

The defender is not expected back for quite some time, and will not be available for the trip to Portman Road.

Ben White

Ben White started Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Sunderland last Saturday, but was taken off at half-time with an injury.

It’s been reported that a groin issue forced him off, with the score still 0-0 at the Stadium of Light, as Jurrien Timber returned from injury to take his place.

Arteta played down the extent of White’s issue in the aftermath of the London outfit’s victory, but it remains unclear whether he will be available for the EFL Cup clash.

The defender has dealt with significant injury issues in the past, so extra caution is likely to be taken on his fitness at this stage of the season.

White started each of the opening four league games this campaign before coming off against Sunderland, having only started on nine occasions in the Premier League in 2025/26.

£13m man Cristhian Mosquera started Arsenal’s wins over Coventry City and Aston Villa, but was forced off at Villa Park with an issue.

The defender was not on the bench for the victory at the Stadium of Light at the weekend, despite Arteta playing down the significance of his fitness issue earlier this month.

The centre-back’s issue remains an uncertainty, meaning he is unlikely to feature in the EFL Cup clash against Ipswich on Tuesday night.
