Tommy Doyle has opened up about the role the overseas figures have played at the start of the Championship season.
Wolves midfielder Tommy Doyle has praised the overseas players for their contribution to the squad so far, insisting there’s a great camaraderie between them and the English players that’s helped the team make a positive start to the new campaign.
The gloom and doom from last season’s relegation seems to have cleared on Wolves’ return to the second tier, with the Black Country outfit very much staking their claim for a promotion push in the early stages of the new term.
Wolves went into the elongated international break on such a high after securing a 1-0 win over bitter rivals West Brom at Molineux, although in truth it was a flattering scoreline for the Baggies after such a dominant Wolves display.
Three precious points lifted them over the Baggies into fourth in the Championship standings, with Cesar Peixoto’s men now just three points off Swansea City at the summit.
When domestic action returns, Wolves will be looking to shoot up the table with further victories and assert their dominance on the rest of the division, and confidence off the back of consecutive victories makes that a distinct possibility.
Speaking to Wolves’ official club website, Doyle, who linked up at Molineux permanently from Manchester City for a reported £4.3m fee in the summer of 2024, opened up about their successful start to the season and the role the overseas players have played across their opening seven league games.

After suffering relegation from the Premier League, Wolves were heavily backed to dominate this season’s Championship and be fighting for automatic promotion, although some doubts would have been lingering as to whether they could do it under Cesar Peixoto, who hadn’t experienced the ferocity of the second tier before.
Peixoto certainly felt the challenge on the opening night of the season, drawing 2-2 at home to Blackburn Rovers, as a stoppage time penalty from Raul Jimenez got them up and running for the new campaign.
Wolves earned their first win on the road at Preston North End, dispatching the Lilywhites 3-1, before making it back-to-back victories by beating Stoke City 4-1 back at Molineux.
Their first defeat would come at the London Stadium to fellow relegated outfit West Ham, with a goal fest in East London resulting in a 4-2 loss.
Travelling to St Andrew’s to face Birmingham City next, Wolves battled to a 2-2 draw before recording consecutive 1-0 victories over Sheffield United and bitter rivals West Brom, allowing them to head into the international break on a high and full of confidence towards the top end of the table.
Those results mean that Wolves, under Peixoto, sit fourth in the table, taking 14 points from their opening seven games, while still having a game in hand over their promotion rivals.

Speaking to Wolves’ official club website, midfielder Tommy Doyle was full of praise for the ‘foreign boys’ in the squad, revealing how their ability to gel with the English players has created a good atmosphere in the camp and helped them on their way to having a successful start to the season.
When asked about his relationship with the likes of Kieran Trippier and Adam Armstrong, Doyle responded: "Those boys are great. They’ve played a lot of matches and have a lot of experience. That helps the team and helps the other players, and it probably helps the staff too. If there’s anything they want to ask about English football or the league, they can speak to those types of players because they’ve been doing it for a long time.
"With Tripps, you’re talking about somebody who’s had an incredible career and is still going and Arma has been prolific in the Championship for a long, long time, and those types of lads are so important.
"The foreign boys get on really well with us English boys too - we have a laugh, we help each other and there’s good banter, and when you’ve got that feeling within a squad, you can be dangerous. If you get things right on the pitch, it can really click and we can have an amazing season."

Last season was a really tough one for all connected with Wolves, with poor performances and an inability to get results concocting a year to forget.
And while relegation will have undoubtedly stung, going back down to the Championship has given Wolves the perfect opportunity to reset and refresh, with both the players and supporters in much better places after getting back on the winning board consistently so far this season.
Their stylish victory over West Brom in the Black Country derby showed how the connection between the players and fanbase had been restored, and it was fantastic to see Molineux rocking once again after so many months of doom and gloom.
Such positivity can lead Wolves on to achieve great things this season, and after a positive opening seven games, the only way is up as the players continue to get used to the rough and tumble of the division.
