The 24-year-old came back to Wolves this term following a very impressive loan spell in the West Midlands with Birmingham City last season, but is yet to make a Championship start under his Portuguese boss so far.

It’s something Doyle will be hoping to earn very soon, as he’ll want the opportunity to stamp his authority in the midfield and be a shining asset in their promotion-chasing campaign.

Wolves will have their sights set on an instant return to the Premier League, and they are very much in contention to do so, with a dominant 1-0 win over West Brom in the Black Country derby prior to the international break helping them leapfrog the Baggies into fourth place – just three points off Swansea City at the summit.

When domestic action returns, Wolves will be looking to shoot up the table with further victories and assert their dominance on the rest of the division, with Doyle in particular hoping to play a vital part in that.

Speaking to Wolves TV, he opened up about his relationship with Peixoto and the need for him to be versatile in the midfield areas.

Naturally, after suffering relegation from the Premier League, Wolves were heavily backed to dominate this season’s Championship and be fighting for automatic promotion, although some doubts would have been lingering as to whether they could do it under Cesar Peixoto, who hadn’t experienced the ferocity of the second tier before.

Peixoto certainly felt it on the opening night of the season, drawing 2-2 at home to Blackburn Rovers, as a stoppage time Raul Jimenez penalty got them up and running for the new campaign.

Wolves earned their first win on the road at Preston North End, dispatching the Lilywhites 3-1, before making it back-to-back victories by beating Stoke City 4-1 at Molineux.

Their first defeat would come at the London Stadium to fellow relegated outfit West Ham, with a goal fest in East London resulting in a 4-2 loss.

Travelling to St Andrew’s to face Birmingham City next, Wolves battled to a 2-2 draw before recording consecutive 1-0 victories over Sheffield United and bitter rivals West Brom, allowing them to head into the international break on a high and full of confidence towards the top end of the table.

Those results mean that Wolves, under Peixoto, sit fourth in the table, taking 14 points from their opening seven games, while still having a game in hand over their promotion rivals.

Speaking to Wolves’ official club website, midfielder Tommy Doyle opened up that he had a ‘conversation’ with boss Cesar Peixoto about the importance of being versatile in midfield, revealing he has been told to learn all three midfield positions that can hopefully lead him to getting a first start in the Championship under his new manager very soon.

Doyle said: "I actually had a conversation with the boss about that the other day and he basically told me to make sure I learn all three midfield positions.

"Predominantly, I’ve been playing as the right number eight and then as a number 10 out of possession, a lot higher up the pitch. Then during games I can drop into the left eight or play as one of two holding midfielders in possession. I can play as the single pivot as well, but that’s not a problem for me because I learned that growing up.

"It’s important to have all those strings to your bow. It helps you get minutes and it helps you play so I’m ready to start whenever I’m needed.

"But even if I’m not starting, I’m now in a mindset where it isn’t about being disappointed, it’s how can I get onto the pitch and help my teammates, help the club and help the manager get three points. That’s the most important thing."

It’s promising signs for Tommy Doyle, who, after that conversation with Cesar Peixoto, could be in line for a more regular starting role over the coming weeks and months.

With the relentless nature of the Championship, Wolves need every player in their squad to do their bit, and it really helps to have such a versatile midfielder who can play in several positions, which is so beneficial if injuries hit a certain area of the midfield department.

If Doyle can prove he can play all of the three roles he mentioned, then he’s sure to transition into a favourite under Peixoto, although it hasn’t seemed like it in the early days as he’s yet to earn a start in the second tier.

But that could all change very shortly, with Doyle eager to show the form he produced at St Andrew’s to the Wolves faithful and prove why he should play such a key part in a promotion push this term.
