The Baggies are currently led by Ryan Mason, who is embarking on his first full-time managerial role since departing Tottenham Hotspur as a first-team coach.

The former Hull City midfielder has learned off the likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte, José Mourinho and Ange Postecoglou, looking to showcase the skills he has built up to lead the Baggies to success this season.

Controlling shareholder Shilen Patel and President Andrew Nestor are targeting a squad overhaul over the next few years, with this summer a showing of real intent as they completely revamped an aging backline.

This process will continue beyond this season, as a number of players who have been affiliated with the club for a long time are set to wave goodbye to B71.

Here at Football League World, we list the West Brom players who are out of contract next summer and will exit the Black Country next summer.

Josh Maja

The first West Brom player who is out of contract at the end of the season is striker Josh Maja, who has had his fair share of injury troubles since linking up at The Hawthorns.

Maja originally joined Albion in the summer of 2023 on a free transfer following his departure from French outfit Bordeaux, but would feature just 12 times as two serious ankle injuries played a major part in scuppering his debut term.

He would return the following season under Carlos Corberan fit and firing, with the Nigerian international netting 12 times in 26 appearances before lower leg surgery ruled him out for the remainder of the season. Maja’s absence was significantly felt as he remained Albion’s top scorer for that season despite being ruled out of action since January.

This season, Maja is continuing to build up his fitness and will hope to get back on the goalscoring trail soon, but if that doesn’t happen, then you may get the feeling that his spell in the blue and white stripes will be coming to an end.

Karlan Grant

Karlan Grant is entering his sixth and potentially final season as a West Brom player, with the contract he signed in 2020 running down next summer.

Since joining from Huddersfield Town following Albion’s promotion back to the Premier League, Grant has largely underwhelmed during his time in the West Midlands, with his only respectable scoring season coming in 2021-22 when he netted 18 times.

Apart from that term, the 28-year-old has been unable to reach double figures for goals in a campaign, with some of his Albion stint involving a loan out to Cardiff City in the second-tier.

Unless a remarkable transformation happens in terms of attacking contributions, then Grant will be leaving for nothing, bringing an end to a simply disastrous investment.

Daryl Dike

Speaking of disastrous investments, Daryl Dike certainly ranks up there given his lack of playing time for West Brom.

Joining for a reported £7m fee from Orlando City back in 2021, Dike’s opening season for Albion saw him make just two appearances, as a hamstring injury on his home debut against Peterborough United ruled him out for the remainder of the term.

Heading into 2022-23 under Steve Bruce, the American international was sidelined for 19 games with a thigh injury, before earning his longest run of playing time in an Albion shirt under Carlos Corberan, featuring in 22 consecutive games and scoring seven goals in the process.

But over that and the following season, Dike suffered two gut-wrenching Achilles tendon ruptures, meaning he didn’t make a consistent return to action until February 2025 with Tony Mowbray at the helm.

Dike has played a total of games for West Brom in five seasons that you would expect to see in one or two, so it seems very likely that the club parts ways with the forward, with this move just destined to never work out.

Jed Wallace

Next up is club captain Jed Wallace, who has failed to live up to the hype he originally built when joining from Millwall on a free transfer.

After registering 37 goals and 39 assists in over 200 second-tier appearances, there was so much optimism that Wallace could be the key to getting Albion free-scoring and potent in the final third.

But Wallace has been unable to get into the double figures for goals or assists throughout his time at the club, with his best return coming in his debut campaign when he notched six goals and eight assists.

2024-25’s tally of just a solitary goal and an assist epitomised the decline the 31-year-old has been on, while injuries are starting to creep in, which is making it increasingly difficult to see him returning to his best.

Again, it seems another deal that isn’t going to work out on the pitch, but Wallace has at least been some help to the playing squad with his leadership qualities.

Joe Wildsmith

Shot-stopper Joe Wildsmith's contract at West Brom runs down this summer, and he’s a figure the majority of Albion supporters will be happy to see the back of.

When a gaping hole was left following Alex Palmer’s departure to Ipswich Town at the turn of 2025, the ex-Derby County man was elected to try and fill in some rather big shoes, but a series of costly mistakes against the likes of Burnley and Sunderland saw him last just 10 games, as Josh Griffiths grabbed his spot as the Baggies’ play-off hopes faded away.

Heading into 2025-26, Wildsmith, for now, remains second-choice keeper behind Griffiths, and it would seem sensible for Albion to part ways with the 29-year-old and recruit a more reliable goalkeeper who can challenge Griffiths for a starting spot in the years to come.

Ousmane Diakite

The final West Brom player who is out of contract next summer is midfielder Ousmane Diakite, who has never been able to lock down a regular starting spot during his time in the blue and white stripes.

Playing in the number six position, the Mali midfielder featured 22 times in his debut season, but started on just nine occasions, largely coming on to protect leads with his commanding frame and physicality.

So far under Ryan Mason, the role has been largely the same, although he has earned a run of five successive starts due to the injuries of Jayson Molumby and Toby Collyer.

He is far from a flashy player, but Diakite has usually impressed when handed opportunities in the heart of the midfield. The club do hold the option of extending his contract by an extra year, so it will be interesting to see whether the club triggers it later down the line.

As things stand though, Diakite will be waving goodbye to B71.
