One player whose immediate future at Manchester City doesn’t seem guaranteed is Claudio Echeverri. The young attacking midfielder surprisingly made his debut for the club in their FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace. Echeverri did show plenty of promising signs at Wembley. But looking ahead to next season it’s hard to see where Echeverri fits into Pep Guardiola’s squad. A new report indicates that Serie A side Como has an interest in signing Echeverri on loan for next season. That could be the best move for Echeverri for next season to aid his development.

Depending on how the summer transfer window unfolds a loan move for Claudio Echeverri may happen.

Who Manchester City sign during the summer transfer window may dictate where Claudio Echeverri plays next season. If Rayan Cherki is signed by City it would be hard to see how Echeverri would get minutes next season. The prospect of Oscar Bobb being fully fit and available for selection may further limit Echeverri’s opportunities to play. Where the question comes in, is Echeverri’s development better served by staying at Manchester City or potentially playing first-team football elsewhere?

Claudio Echeverri’s talent and potential aren’t in question. There is no chance that Manchester City sell Echeverri. But is he best served by being a bit part player in Pep Guardiola’s squad? Training and being on the bench and playing sparingly for Manchester City isn’t the worst thing for Echeverri’s development. But is it better than playing regularly at a club like Como in Serie A? Perhaps not. How the Manchester City hierarchy view the next step of Echeverri’s development as a player will likely dictate whether or not he remains at City for next season.

A loan move to Como wouldn’t be the worst move for Claudio Echeverri. He could develop while playing or competing to play regular first-team football in Serie A. Echeverri’s future may be dictated by who Manchester City sign this summer. But it wouldn’t be a major surprise to see him go out on loan next season.
