Mohamed Salah has equaled negative Liverpool record after the team lost seven of the last eight Premier League game he started.

Salah returned to Liverpool last week after featuring with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 where the Pharaohs failed to win the trophy and lost third place match against Nigeria on penalties.

Since coming back, Salah started in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Marseille in Champions League but the Reds then suffered damaging 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League.

Liverpool now lost seven of their last eight Premier League matches in which Salah started.

This matches poor record previously set by Dutch forward Dirk Kuyt during difficult spell for the club between February & May 2012.

The Bournemouth defeat placed Salah on the wrong side of statistic despite his long-standing reputation as one of Liverpool’s greatest modern players.

List of recent matches

Salah has recently started Premier League games against:

  • Crystal Palace
  • Chelsea
  • Manchester United
  • Brentford
  • Aston Villa
  • Manchester City
  • Nottingham Forest
  • Bournemouth

Liverpool lost all of those matches except the win over Aston Villa which ended 2-0.

Salah scored in that match and it remains his last league goal of the season so far.

Kuyt’s 2012 Season Warning

Dirk Kuyt’s record came during Kenny Dalglish’s final months in charge when Liverpool finished eighth and Kuyt left in the summer for Fenerbahce.

Some Liverpool supporters now fear similar story could develop with Salah especially with speculation growing about possible departure from Anfield in the upcoming summer transfer window.
