Abel fined for kicking microphone in Palmeiras’ Libertadores match, avoids suspension | OneFootball

Abel Ferreira has been fined for kicking a microphone during Palmeiras’ 1-0 win at Cerro Porteño in the Libertadores last 16. According to Globo.com, he remains free to take charge against LDU next Wednesday.

The incident occurred in the second leg in Paraguay and the coach was not dismissed at the time, as also happened on Sunday against Mirassol. After review by Conmebol’s disciplinary committee, no suspension was imposed.

Conmebol opened a disciplinary case and on Tuesday levied a 10,000 dollar fine, about R$ 51.5 thousand. It also ordered 1,832.60 dollars, about R$ 9.4 thousand, to reimburse the damaged microphone.

He was cited under Article 11.2, item Q, of the confederation’s disciplinary code, which covers causing damage. The code allows sanctions ranging from warnings and fines to match or stadium bans.

Separately, Brazil’s STJD has filed a complaint over a similar incident against Mirassol, with a hearing pending. In April, the STJD banned Abel for eight matches for two dismissals against Fluminense and São Paulo. The current case carries a possible ban of up to six games.
