Four teams in total have entered this Africa Cup of Nations – AFCON 2025, and none of them have yet secured a single win in the history of the tournament.

Benin, Botswana, and Tanzania all failed to clinch that historic first victory on Tuesday. The Cheetahs fell to DR Congo (1-0) in a tense match where refereeing was at the heart of controversy.

Botswana were outclassed by Senegal (3-0), while Tanzania succumbed to the Super Eagles (2-1) despite a strong showing.

This Wednesday, December 24, Mozambique have a chance to finally claim their first ever AFCON victory when they face Côte d’Ivoire, the defending champions, at 17:30 GMT.

In five AFCON appearances (1986, 1996, 1998, 2010, and 2023), the Mambas have never tasted victory. Their record stands at 4 draws and 11 defeats.

A first win tonight against the Elephants would be historic, especially as they face the reigning champions at full strength.
