According to reports from Spain, Liverpool have shown an interest in potentially signing a second player from Barcelona in this summer’s transfer window.

Earlier this week, the Reds announced the completion of a season-long loan move for Ronald Araujo from the LaLiga champions, with the Uruguayan bolstering the centre-back options available to Andoni Iraola.

While squad depth in that position now looks considerably healthier, the same can’t be said for right-back, with Conor Bradley sidelined for several more months and Jeremie Frimpong being all too injury-prone since his arrival at Anfield last summer.

However, Liverpool might now have an ideal opportunity to address that concern in the final few weeks of the transfer window.

Liverpool have ‘shown interest’ in potential move for Hector Fort

A report from Spanish outlet Sport has claimed that the Reds have ‘shown interest’ in a potential loan move for Barcelona right-back Hector Fort, who’s ‘accepted’ that he’ll have to leave Camp Nou in order to play regularly this season.

Everton and Fulham are also eyeing a possible deal for the 20-year-old, along with unnamed clubs in LaLiga and Serie A. It’s stated that the Toffees ‘could present the most attractive offer for all parties’.

Both player and club are keen to resolve his immediate future as soon as possible, with the current situation ‘not comfortable’ for anyone involved.

Could Fort be a sensible loan signing for Liverpool to consider?

Hailed as an ‘exceptional’ talent by his former Barcelona boss Xavi (Football Insider), Fort was loaned to Elche last season, but a long-term shoulder injury contributed towards him making just 17 appearances in all competitions.

Compared to other right-backs in the 2025/26 LaLiga campaign (via Fotmob), the youngster stood out for his ability to get forward and win the ball high up the pitch, although he rated unfavourably for core defensive metrics such as tackling and interceptions.

Although Liverpool can’t have more than one player on loan from the same Premier League club at a given time, they’re allowed up to three simultaneously from overseas clubs, so they’d be able to bring in the 20-year-old in addition to Araujo without having to immediately commit to a full transfer.

Also, as Fort was born after January 2005, he’s exempt from classification towards the permissible maximum of 17 non-homegrown players in a Premier Leauge squad, with the Reds currently having no free spaces in that regard.

Therefore, with Bradley not due back for some time and Frimpong not wholly reliable in terms of his availability, a season-long loan for the Barcelona gem could make plenty of sense for LFC, although it’d effectively confirm that Calvin Ramsay has no place in Iraola’s plans.
