FC Bayern are intensifying their planning for the new season, focusing on possible changes to their central defence in the event of a departure. Following the withdrawal of Marc Guehi, one player in particular is currently being talked up again.

According to transfer insider Ekrem Konur, the German record champions are among the clubs who have set their sights on Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni. In addition to FC Bayern, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, FC Barcelona, Liverpool and Chelsea are also said to be interested. Transferfeed also reports that the 26-year-old is generally open to a move. Inter are said to be demanding a transfer fee of at least 80 million euros. Bastoni’s contract runs until 2028.

Bastoni has been a mainstay at Inter for years and is also playing a central role in the current season. In 24 appearances, the Italian international has scored one goal and provided five assists – strong figures for a centre-back. In sporting terms, the left-back fits perfectly into FC Bayern’s profile: Bastoni is press-resistant, strong and opens up the game with precise passes – qualities that are particularly in demand under coach Vincent Kompany.

Bastoni also has plenty of experience at top level, having won the European Championship with Italy and several national titles with Inter. Should Minjae Kim leave the club, Bastoni could compete with Upamecano and Tah for a regular place in central defence.

There were reports of renewed interest from Munich back in December, and Bastoni is also said to have already been a topic at Säbener Straße in 2022 – at the time as a possible successor to Niklas Süle. A transfer did not materialise, but contact with his entourage is said to have already been established at the time.

However, a transfer would not only be a feat in sporting terms, but also financially. Inter are considered tough negotiating partners. Transferfeed reports that Chelsea failed with an offer of €50 million, while Liverpool are said to have offered up to €100 million. It seems unlikely that Munich will put together such a financial package, not least because of Dayot Upamecano’s expensive and impending contract extension.
