Lennart Karl had to cope with the bitter disappointment of missing the World Cup just a few days ago. At the opening game of FC Bayern Basketball’s finals series, the offensive talent received a lot of encouragement from Munich fans—and gave his first public update on his health.

The pain of missing the World Cup still runs deep. Nevertheless, Lennart Karl is already looking ahead again.

The 18-year-old was a guest at SAP Garden on Thursday evening and watched FC Bayern Basketball’s first Finals game against ALBA Berlin live in person. Together with his girlfriend Zoe Käppele, Karl took a seat in the front row and was greeted by the crowd with loud applause.

The fans’ recognition likely did the youngster a world of good during a difficult time.

Karl provides a positive health update

During a brief interview with arena announcer Mitja Lafere, Karl spoke publicly for the first time about his current condition following the muscle tear that prevented him from participating in the World Cup.

“Fortunately, I’m not in that much pain and am now doing everything I can to get back as soon as possible,” explained the Bayern talent.

In doing so, Karl made it clear that rehabilitation has already begun and that he is doing everything he can to return to the court as soon as possible.

In addition to the applause, the offensive player also received a special honor. The FC Bayern basketball department presented Karl with a jersey bearing his name—a gesture that underscores the close bond within the club.

Focus on a comeback

The audience also included numerous prominent figures from the record-breaking champions. Alongside President Herbert Hainer, Honorary President Uli Hoeneß also watched the game at SAP Garden.

For Karl, the injury was particularly bitter.

The attacking player had played his way into the spotlight of national team coach Julian Nagelsmann in recent months and had been hoping for a role at the World Cup. Shortly before the tournament began, however, he suffered a torn muscle and had to withdraw from the competition.

Nagelsmann ultimately nominated Assan Ouédraogo as a replacement for the World Cup squad.

At FC Bayern, there remains great confidence in the youngster. Karl is considered one of the greatest German talents of his generation and is expected to play an important role for the record champions in the long term. His rehabilitation process is being managed with corresponding care.

The clear goal now is to return fully fit for preseason training and, if possible, not to miss any competitive matches in the new season.
