After the double comes the triple? Eberl sets a major goal for Bayern | OneFootball

After winning the double, FC Bayern is set to take the next step. Sporting Director Max Eberl has clearly outlined the goals for the new season. While Munich once again enters the Bundesliga as the favorite, the team believes even more is possible, particularly in the Champions League.

Last season went almost perfectly for FC Bayern on the domestic front. Vincent Kompany’s team secured the German championship and also won the DFB Cup. Internationally, however, they fell just short. In the Champions League semifinals, the record champions were eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain.

For Max Eberl, one thing is clear: the successes of the past season should not remain a one-off. “We had an outstanding last season. Our goal is to repeat that performance. But we have to be aware that this isn’t a sure thing—it’s the result of hard work and a clear strategy. Yes, we’re probably going into the new season as favorites,” the sporting director explained during the Audi Summer Tour.

Eberl warns against Dortmund, Leipzig, and Leverkusen

Despite last season’s strong showing, Eberl doesn’t expect the Bundesliga title to be a sure thing. The 52-year-old sees several clubs that could challenge Munich for the title. “I think Dortmund, Leipzig, and Leverkusen—with their new coach and new players—will be contenders, even though the transfer window isn’t closed yet and we can’t fully assess them just yet.”

In addition, Eberl expects that other teams could emerge as contenders: “There will probably be one or two surprise teams.”

However, that doesn’t change the German record champions’ objective. “We know we’re the favorites, and we want to stay at the top and win the title again—that’s the goal for the new season,” the Bayern boss made clear.

This means FCB is once again entering the season as the team to beat. Following last season’s domestic dominance, the main challenge for Kompany and his team is to maintain that high level of play.

The Champions League remains Bayern’s big dream

The goals on the international stage are even more ambitious. The semifinal exit against PSG apparently still stings for Eberl. While both domestic titles—the league championship and the cup—went to Munich, the team came very close to reaching the final in the Champions League.

“By winning the double last season, we’ve set the bar high. We would have liked to play one more game in the third competition. We’ll work on that,” Eberl emphasized.

The message behind this is clear: FC Bayern does not want to settle permanently for a spot among the top four teams in Europe. The Champions League final—and with it, the chance to lift the trophy—is the ultimate goal.

Kompany had recently expressed a similar stance. During the team’s tour of Asia, the Bayern coach explicitly stated that winning the Champions League is one of his team’s goals.

Following the double, expectations at Säbener Straße have thus risen once again. The team aims to defend its league title, is looking to make another run at the DFB Cup—and in Europe, the journey should go as far as possible this time, ideally all the way to the final match.
