Alessio Romagnoli could leave Lazio after growing frustrated with how the hierarchy have treated him in recent years, particularly an unfulfilled pay rise tied to Champions League qualification.
"Alessio wanted to end his career here, but Lazio haven’t been in touch for years, and now we’re looking around. When he leaves, he’ll go abroad," said his agent Enzo Raiola, speaking to Rai Sport.
The 31-year-old left AC Milan in June 2022 and accepted a significant pay cut to join his beloved club. President Claudio Lotito had pledged a raise if he helped deliver Champions League football, but it never materialised and Romagnoli even voiced his frustration publicly last season.
His remarks come amid reports of ongoing talks between his entourage and Al-Sadd, the Qatari giants coached by Roberto Mancini. The centre-back is under contract until June 2027, and it is unclear whether Lazio would sanction a mid-season exit.
Any sale would risk widening the rift between the hierarchy and Maurizio Sarri, with earlier reports suggesting the head coach would consider resigning if Romagnoli were sold. He regards the defender as vital to his plans.
