Stefan Baiaram was offered to Benfica, but his agent says José Mourinho ruled it out, judging the 23-year-old Universitatea Craiova forward not a fit. Craiova lead the Romanian top flight.
"José Mourinho told me he was not a player for Benfica," said Giovanni Becali, speaking to PrimaSport. "I presented him to several teams, to Benfica and to Porto."
"Porto, via coach Francesco Farioli, said they had passed him to the scouts and felt his position was covered, we would talk in the summer," the agent added.
"In Italy, Bologna studied him and Roma's sporting director received a presentation video," Becali said. "He told me, 'Giovanni, for now we are fine, we will talk in the summer'."
The player has said he holds a club promise that he could leave in the summer of 2027 if targets are met. "Yes, I will definitely leave in the summer. I want to win the league. I met the board and they promised that if everything goes well this year, they will let me go," he said.
This season he has 38 games, 26 in the Romanian league, 11 in the Conference League and one in the Romanian Cup, across 2,327 minutes. He has 12 goals and four assists and is valued at 4.5 million euros.
