Valencia’s injury list continues to shape the agenda during the international break, and Javier Aguirre received a fresh boost on Tuesday as Mouctar Diakhaby again completed part of the group session. According to Superdeporte, the centre-back is currently making the strongest progress among those in recovery.
At his unveiling, the Mexican coach admitted the volume of injuries was his biggest concern, stressing he is still getting to know the squad. He said medical matters are for the specialists and that any squad needs would be discussed with Braulio, noting he does not handle budgets.
César Tárrega and Copete are also improving, working individually on the grass and back on the ball. The staff hope to round out their centre-back options for October, which would allow Pepelu to return to his natural role in midfield.
Tárrega sustained a right hamstring injury against Sevilla on 11 September and his return is being managed with caution to avoid a relapse. How he feels next week will determine whether he can make the squad to face Racing de Santander on 11 October, or wait for Athletic Club on 17 October.
Umar Sadiq, Diego López and Sergi Canós continued treatment with the physios, while the rest trained, including Guido Rodríguez and Luis Rioja. Rodríguez has treated pain from a stamp on a right toe in Vitoria, while Rioja manages a plantar problem. With days left in LaLiga’s three-week pause, Aguirre will monitor recoveries, his options particularly restricted in defence.
