Al Ahly break silence on Youssef Belammari absence after four straight squad omissions
Al Ahly said Youssef Belammari has been left out of matches because he is not yet fully fit after a long spell without playing.
Egyptian giants Al Ahly have explained why new signing Youssef Belammari has not appeared in recent domestic or continental matches.
The club confirmed on Monday that the Moroccan left-back is still not ready in terms of fitness and match sharpness.
Belammari joined Al Ahly during the winter transfer window from Raja Casablanca, with the club aiming to strengthen the left-back position.
However his continued absence from matchday squads has caused growing discussion among supporters.
In official statement through the club’s media center, Al Ahly said the main reason for his exclusion is that he has been away from competitive football for a long period.
Al Ahly confirmed that head coach Jess Thorup met with Belammari to explain the technical and physical reasons behind the decision.
The Danish manager stressed that the player needs more time to reach full readiness before being involved in matches.
The club added that Torup has full confidence in Belammari and believes he will become important option once his fitness improves.
Al Ahly also noted that the Moroccan was registered in both the local league squad and the African competition list showing that the club still counts on him for the coming stage.
Belammari was again absent from Al Ahly’s squad for the league match against National Bank of Egypt on Tuesday marking the fourth consecutive game he has missed since arriving.
His lack of minutes has raised questions because he was signed specifically as reinforcement for the left side of defense.
Al Ahly insisted that the situation is purely linked to preparation and not to any other issues.
Al Ahly currently sit third in the Egyptian Premier League table with 26 point, six point behind leaders Ceramica Cleopatra.
