Al-Dhafra have announced the signing of Brazilian defender Samir, a Flamengo academy graduate, as the 2026 second transfer window continues.

In a social media post on Friday 31, the UAE club welcomed Samir Caetano de Souza and wished him success with the team, the club said.

The centre-back joins after a spell at Al-Najmah in Saudi Arabia, where he had played since August 2025. Before moving to the Middle East, he featured in Mexico for Tigres and Mazatlán.

Samir first stood out at Audax, then joined Flamengo in 2011 for the under-20s. He stepped up to the senior side in 2013, winning a Copa do Brasil and a Carioca.

Across his Flamengo spell, the 31-year-old made 86 appearances, scoring three goals with one assist.

His displays earned a move to Udinese at the end of 2015 for 4 million euros, around R$16 million at the time.

Flamengo are aiming to add three players this window, and the only name to surface is Thiago Almada, ex-Botafogo and an Atlético de Madrid midfielder, with advanced talks with the Argentine.

The board also want a winger and a centre-forward, targeting a young striker to rotate with Pedro in certain matches, since the number 9 is a fixture under Leonardo Jardim.
