Danilo has chosen to remain at Flamengo, turning down for now an invitation from the CBF to join a technical council linked to the Seleção Brasileira and assist Carlo Ancelotti.
The federation wanted him involved at the start of the national team’s new cycle, but the centre-back has opted to stay for another season. ESPN first reported the CBF approach.
Flamengo have presented him with a post-retirement project, and a new contract running to 2027 is likely to be signed by next week.
The initial plan would see Danilo, aged 35, step into a role similar to a football manager from 2028, working closely with both the first team and the academy. The chance to continue at the club beyond retirement is influencing his decision to extend.
Although he has declined the role for now, the CBF have not closed the door and could return with another proposal once he ends his playing career. For the moment, his priority is to remain with Flamengo and develop his future there.
