Al-Ettifaq are reportedly keen to sign Olympique de Marseille’s Derek Cornelius (28), according to information from journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Talks between the Saudi club and their French counterparts are said to have already begun with a view to finalising the deal before the local transfer window closes on 6th September.

Although he was at one point reported to be close to joining Rayo Vallecano, Cornelius’s move to Spain was ultimately blocked due to a lack of agreement. On loan at Rangers last season, where he made 12 appearances, scored one goal and provided one assist, the Canadian defender could still leave OM in the coming days.

Having arrived in the south of France in the summer of 2024, Cornelius never really established himself there, making a total of 26 appearances in all competitions for the Marseille side.

An international, he has made 48 appearances (scoring one goal) for the Canucks, with whom he notably took part in the last World Cup.
