Stéphane Richard set out OM’s austerity shift after a summer of departures and no arrivals, speaking on RMC’s Rothen s'enflamme on Wednesday.

His comments came hours after a historic window for the club closed without a single signing.

He acknowledged the current cost base is impossible to sustain, particularly without Champions League qualification.

OM are under close scrutiny from UEFA and the DNCG, French football’s financial watchdog, after frenzied spending during the Pablo Longoria-Medhi Benatia era.

A fresh meeting with the DNCG is scheduled between late November and early December.

Richard intends to set out the recent efforts, notably a drastic cut to the wage bill.
