Al-Ettifaq have made an enquiry over Gonzalo Plata’s situation at Flamengo, with the Ecuador winger’s future still unclear after time in Russia for talks with Dynamo Moscow.
Mr Off reports that the Saudi club asked about Plata’s physical and contractual status. Dynamo Moscow dropped their pursuit citing a knee issue, and the player’s Flamengo contract runs until August 2029.
The Saudi top-flight window remains open until 11 September, so if an offer arrives and Flamengo accept, Plata could still move this half-year.
On Friday, Flamengo expected Plata back in Brazil at 16:00 Brasília time, but he did not appear. The winger then posted an image from Dubai on social media.
The delay disrupted plans to include him in the trip to Belém on Saturday ahead of the Brasileirão match against Remo. From Pará, Flamengo are due to fly to Quito to face Independiente del Valle in the Libertadores quarter-finals on Thursday.
Having not trained since travelling to Russia, Plata is unlikely to feature in Quito. The altitude was seen as a possible advantage for him, given his experience with Ecuador.
In his absence, Leonardo Jardim could turn again to Jorge Carrascal, while Luiz Araújo and new signing Anthony Valencia are alternatives on the flank. Lucas Paquetá has operated on the right as well.
