As reported by as.com, Elche’s grim start has put the goalkeeping position under scrutiny, with Alejandro Iturbe pushing for a chance as Matías Dituro struggles.
Elche have taken one point from 12 and have conceded 12 goals in four matches, the most so far, averaging three per game. Dituro’s form has dipped, with errors in back-to-back games against Racing and Real Sociedad.
Doubts over Dituro have opened the door for Iturbe, 23, who has Anselmi’s trust. A change in goal is not ruled out at San Mamés or in a later match if Dituro’s uncertainty continues.
Iturbe signed until 2029 last summer, yet did not play a minute last season in league or cup. Dituro and Iñaki Peña shared every game.
Although Anselmi asked for another goalkeeper before the window closed, the coach is calm with Iturbe as deputy.
After the defeat to Real Sociedad, Anselmi publicly backed Dituro, describing him as an experienced captain of real stature who brings the team joy and knows how to manage situations like this. His next selection could either settle the discussion or leave it open.
