Alex Sandro returned in Flamengo’s win over Corinthians after a lengthy recovery from a right calf injury, following a tailored programme to be ready for his comeback.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the left-back followed a staged plan overseen by club physiotherapists to sustain his fitness for a first-team return.

His previous outing was the 1-1 draw with Internacional in Porto Alegre on 29 July in the Brasileirão. He then advanced through gym work and sessions on the pitch, and also trained with the under-17 and under-20 sides while the seniors travelled from Belém, after facing Remo, straight to Quito to meet Independente del Valle (EQU).

He was among the substitutes on Sunday 13, then replaced Ayrton Lucas in the second half. He briefly felt the pace but coped well.

Afterwards, he thanked the doctors and physiotherapists, said he felt very good and even better than he expected, and noted that being in the squad means a player is cleared to play.

With Alex Sandro available, Flamengo host Independente del Valle (EQU) in the second leg of the Libertadores quarter-finals at the Maracanã at 21:30, Brasília time.
