Alexander Schlager is leaving FC Red Bull Salzburg after three years and joining SV Werder Bremen.
The 30-year-old from Salzburg native came through the Red Bull Football Academy and returned in the summer of 2023 as the Austrian national team goalkeeper. Since then, he has made a total of 113 appearances for our Red Bulls in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga, the UNIQA ÖFB Cup, the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League. Now he is moving to Werder Bremen in the German Bundesliga.
Alex came to FC Red Bull Salzburg three years ago with the clear aim of winning titles. Even though he didn't achieve that, Alex always behaved with absolute professionalism, delivered top performances, and, above all, was an important part of the team as a person and a Salzburg icon. With the transfer to Werder Bremen, the next chapter of his career takes him to the German Bundesliga. We thank Alex for his commitment while wearing the FC Red Bull Salzburg jersey and wish him all the best in his new challenge at Werder Bremen!
Marcus Mann, Managing Director of Sport
I would like to sincerely thank everyone for our time together. Even though the last three years haven't gone as we all hoped in terms of success on the pitch, I was able to fulfill a childhood dream here at my hometown club. The German Bundesliga awaits me now, but I will continue to follow FC Red Bull Salzburg's progress closely and am already looking forward to coming back. I wish the club, the team and everyone involved all the best for the future!
