Algeria part ways with head coach Vladimir Petkovic by mutual consent | OneFootball

The Algerian Football Federation has parted company with head coach Vladimir Petkovic. It announced on Monday that the contractual relationship with the Swiss and his staff ended by mutual consent.

Petkovic, of Bosnian origin and aged 62, was appointed in 2024 to succeed Djamel Belmadi. He departs roughly two months after signing an extension through to 2028.

A testing 2026 for Algeria began with an Africa Cup of Nations exit in the quarter-finals, a 2-0 defeat to Nigeria. That run left the coach under pressure.

At the World Cup, benefiting from the expanded 48-team format, Algeria reached the knockout phase for only the second time after 2014. Their campaign ended in the round of 16 against Switzerland, losing 2-0.
