A glorious chapter in Algerian football has come to an end. Raïs M’Bolhi, the iconic Algerian goalkeeper who rose to fame during the 2014 World Cup and lifted the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, has decided to hang up his gloves.

Now 39 years old, Raïs M’Bolhi was playing for ES Mostaganem this season. He started as the first-choice keeper but gradually faded from the first-team picture. With no national team call-ups since January 2024, he ultimately made the decision to call time on his career.

Raïs M’Bolhi came through the ranks at Marseille and went on to play for Rennes and Gazélec Ajaccio, among others. However, he was never quite able to match his international heroics at club level.
