Alice Hughes grinned with the match ball in hand as she spoke with LUTV after her hat-trick helped Leeds United Women qualify for the First Round Proper of the FA Cup.

The Whites were professional and clinical as they cruised past Stockton Town in the final qualifying round, something the midfielder was pleased about as United secured a ninth successive victory in all competitions.

“I think it is really important that we never underestimate opponents when we come into fixtures like this,” Hughes explained on Teesside.

“They were always going to be up for a fight and the FA Cup always adds a little bit of magic and spice to it, I guess. I think it was a really good day.

“Good to get a lot of goals on the scoresheet, everything flowing there, and I think some of the build-up play was really positive as well, so all round quite happy.

“We were obviously going to approach it the same as we would any other game. I think it all links into each other, regardless of whether it is league or cup. I think it all sort of helps with that momentum.

“It is really good to get a lot of goals going in there because I think that will take us into the next game and we can sort of see where those patterns are emerging.”

When asked about scoring a hat-trick, Alice laughed: “Not sure I thought I would never see the day! But it is about the win at the end of the day for the team, less about me personally. So, yeah, happier with that!”
