Which stadiums are the easiest to get to from a central position in their towns and cities?

The 2026/27 Championship season has already got off to an intriguing start on the pitch, with some of the newly-relegated and promoted sides also providing new experiences for supporters of teams who have become staples of the division over time.

The 'away day' culture has exploded in English football over time, regardless of whether a specific club is in the Premier League, Championship, League One or League Two.

As such, it has become a ritual for supporters to be awake extremely early on matchdays before travelling by any means necessary to their side's upcoming destination and sample some of the local traditions, cultures and sights ahead of kick-off.

It has also been well-documented that this season has provided us with some of the biggest and smallest stadiums the Championship has seen in recent memory.

However, for this particular ranking, Football League World have based the stadiums on how far away they are from their respective town or city centres, although this may add to, or worsen the particular experience on the day depending on your views.

24 ? ? Charlton Athletic - The Valley

The stadium furthest away from its main city centre, unsurprisingly, is home to one of the division's London sides in the form of The Valley.

Charlton Athletic has called the stadium home since 1919, and it currently houses in excess of 27,000 spectators.

However, it is said to be approximately 8.9 miles away from Trafalgar Square, with plenty of fans known for travelling to the stadium on the London Underground.

Next up is the 62,500-seater London Stadium, home of West Ham United.

Originally built for the Olympic Games of 2012, the Hammers moved into the grand arena ahead of the 2016/17 Premier League season from Upton Park.

Located in Stratford, it is said to be 6.7 miles away from the centre of London, but again can be accessed in a plethora of ways on public transport.

Loftus Road is the next stadium on this list, home of Queens Park Rangers.

Located in the White City district of West London, it is estimated that the ground is 5.5 miles from Trafalgar Square, but again, the journey from the centre of the capital can be made rather smooth and accessible due to the vast transport network.

The Den, home of Millwall, is only 4 miles from London's central point by contrast, but also perhaps the most hostile football venue in the capital.

With trains accessible from London Bridge, the reputation which, perhaps, still unfairly tarnishes the majority of the Lions' support, means there are separate walkways to and from Bermondsey station for home and away fans, whilst there is a further compound area which surrounds the North Stand.

The ground in 20th position is Bolton Wanderers' Toughsheet Community Stadium.

Although still technically within the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, the stadium, which opened in 1997, is in the adjacent town of Horwich, whilst surrounded by the Middlebrook Retail Park, which is the largest of its kind in the United Kingdom.

As such, the ground is said to be 4 miles from Bolton town centre.

Stoke City's home, the Bet365 Stadium, developed a strong reputation during the club's Premier League days.

However, it is approximately 2 miles away from the city centre, having been built on the site of a former colliery which had been shut down 27 years prior.

Whilst there isn't much to do near the ground in terms of matchday experience, it is easy enough to get away from due to the surrounding A50 and A500 roads.

As you could have guessed, Deepdale is located in the North end of Preston, approximately 2 miles from the centre.

Having taken its name from a farm on which the stadium once stood in the Victorian era, the Lilywhites' home has since been modernised many times and now houses 23,404 spectators.

Fratton Park remains one of the most old-school grounds in the Championship, and one which Portsmouth have looked to make a fortress on terms of results.

That said, it is still a fair 1.7 miles away from Portsmouth city centre, surrounded by a vast residential area which only adds to the feeling of nostalgia when approaching the stadium in comparison to those of some divisional rivals.

Ewood Park is situated approximately 1.6 miles from Blackburn town centre, and due to its facilities and atmosphere, often earns mixed reviews from visiting supporters.

The home of Blackburn Rovers was expanded to its current capacity of 31,367 in the 1990s, coinciding with the club's historic Premier League triumph of 1995.

However, whilst visiting fanbases do sometimes bring over 7,000 fans into the Darwen stand, it still remains one of the emptiest in the Championship.

Derby County's modern home, Pride Park, is situated 1.5 miles away from the city centre.

Again, like plenty of other stadiums of its generation, the Rams' home is surrounded by retail and business units, and at times can take a while to get away from post-match.

However, the locals are known for still bringing a passionate atmosphere which enhances the stadium's experience.
