Throughout the 24 sides currently battling it out in the second-tier, there is a strong mix of experienced shot-stoppers as well as those with strong potential to feature beyond their current standpoint.

It will always be a hot topic of debate as to which keepers are better than others, as well as who takes top spot in that regard between the various sets of supporters.

With that in mind, Football League World has ranked all 24 clubs' main goalkeeper for the current campaign from worst to best,

24 Joe Walsh - QPR

Unfortunately, someone has to take bottom spot, and that goes to young Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Joe Walsh.

The 23-year-old was handed his major breakthrough by Julien Stephan ahead of Paul Nardi at the beginning of the season, but it couldn't have started much worse from a defensive perspective, which included the concession of seven goals away to Coventry City on August 23rd.

It remains to be seen whether Nardi will be brought back into the fold between the sticks, or whether the R's French boss has full faith in Walsh for the remainder of the campaign.

23 Balazs Toth - Blackburn Rovers

In 23rd place is Balazs Toth, whose time between the sticks at Blackburn Rovers has been extremely limited thus far.

After joining from Ferencvaros in August 2024, the Hungarian was initially made understudy to Aynsley Pears, before seeing the roles reversed following the appointment of Valerien Ismael in the latter weeks of this season.

Toth has showcased his ability, largely in isolated instances or encounters, due to a distinct lack of overall minutes in comparison to many other goalkeepers on this list, as well as a limited number of clean sheets when selected at Ewood Park.

22 Jamie Cumming - Oxford United

Jamie Cumming was one of the main reasons behind Oxford United's survival last term, accumulating 13 clean sheets in 42 appearances following his permanent switch to the Kassam Stadium.

However, it has been a difficult start to the campaign for Gary Rowett's side this time around, with the U's lacking the same defensive solidity which provided them a strong platform to earn the required results in last season's bid to stave off an immediate relegation.

That isn't to say that Cumming is a bad shot-stopper either, such is the quality of those in front of him in this particular ranking.

21 Pierce Charles - Sheffield Wednesday

Similarly, Pierce Charles will undoubtedly be Sheffield Wednesday's first-choice goalkeeper during a troubled season for the Owls, which, unsurprisingly, kept him rather busy in the opening weeks of the season.

However, the highly-rated Northern Ireland international has suffered a shoulder injury which will keep him sidelined for some time, currently being replaced by Cardiff City loanee, Ethan Horvath.

Charles was given his first-team breakthrough under Danny Rohl in the final weeks of last season in place of James Beadle, and such is his potential at just 20 years of age, the likes of West Ham United have been credited with interest despite his overall lack of senior football at club level.

20 Thomas Kaminski - Charlton Athletic

Thomas Kaminski had previously been the subject of plaudits for his performances at Championship level with Blackburn Rovers. However, he was unable to hit the same heights during Luton Town's plight from the Premier League down to League One in successive seasons, despite ironically earning major praise for his shot-stopping in the Hatters' solitary top-flight campaign.

The Belgian has since endured a mixed start to life with Charlton Athletic, where he will be hoping to regain plenty of confidence after shipping 68 goals at Kenilworth Road last term, despite making it into double-figures when it came to clean sheets in the process.

19 Vladan Kovačević - Norwich City

Norwich City have found goalkeeper a problem position in recent times, showcased again by the summer arrival of Bosnian keeper, Vladan Kovacevic.

New Canaries boss Liam Manning acquired the 23-year-old's services for £2m from Sporting CP in June following the departure of Angus Gunn.

After previously racking up over 250 appearances thus far, there is strong hope that the former Under-21 international can establish himself as the 'number one' at Carrow Road in the years to come after a mixed start to life as part of a new-look rearguard formed at the start of this season.

18 Lawrence Vigoroux - Swansea City

Lawrence Vigouroux has remained Alan Sheehan's main goalkeeper at Swansea City this term, and the experienced 31-year-old has got off to a respectable start between the sticks after a solid campaign last time out, where he shutout the opposition on 14 occasions.

However, it remains to be seen if the former Burnley man continues to be the Irishman's long-term option between the posts, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, although there is scope for the club to extend his South Wales stay until 2027.

Nicolas Schmid was handed his Portsmouth debut last November, and has since become a mainstay in the side following his move from BZ Linz after the Blues returned to the Championship.

The Austrian kept eight clean sheets in his first 35 league appearances for the club, and his dependable form has continued into this season, holding some of the best records in the division when it comes to save percentage and goals prevented, which will certainly help John Mousinho's bid to progress Pompey up the table.

16 Jacob Widell Zetterstrom - Derby County

Jacob Widell Zetterstrom was also rather busy last season for Derby County, although the Rams would end the campaign with the second-highest defensive record in the second-tier's bottom half.

The Swede's form has certainly improved during John Eustace's spell in charge, which led to reports that Brentford had identified the 27-year-old as a summer transfer target for £3.5m after also signing Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool.

However, those at Pride Park will be relieved that Zetterstrom remains in Derby colours for now, and he could once again be instrumental after a vast summer of changes to the playing squad in this part of the East Midlands.

15 Danny Ward - Wrexham

Despite Arthur Okonkwo coming off two extremely impressive campaigns during back-to-back promotions from League Two to the Championship, Danny Ward was acquired as Wrexham's starting goalkeeper for the current campaign.

After an inconsistent end to his time at Leicester City, the 32-year-old moved to his hometown club as they look to consolidate in the division with an extremely new-looking squad and starting XI compared to last season.

It had been a mixed start for the experienced figure, who also endured a bittersweet encounter against Millwall in late August, keeping his first clean sheet of the season before being sidelined with damaged elbow ligaments which saw him absent from the Red Dragons' 25-man squad, which hints towards a long-term absence.
