Amine Gouiri sustains injury with Algeria and returns to Marseille | OneFootball

Amine Gouiri, 26, sustained an injury while on Algeria duty and has returned to Marseille, the Algerian federation announced.

Gouiri was forced off early in Algeria's 3-1 win over Zambia. After the match, coach Brahim Hemdani cited a quadriceps problem. Following tests on Saturday, the former Stade Rennais and OGC Nice forward was released from the squad.

The severity of the injury has not been disclosed. He is now under the care of OM's medical staff.

OM face Troyes on 11th October, then host Olympiacos in the UEFA Europa League four days later. The club will hope the Algeria international is available for those fixtures.

Gouiri has been a rare bright spark in a difficult start to the season. Marseille are currently second-from-bottom in Ligue 1.

Marseille have also lost Derek Cornelius during this international break. The defender suffered a hip injury while training with Canada and is not expected to return until 2027.
