Amuzu has been called up by Ghana for a friendly against Mexico on 22, shortly after starring in Grêmio’s Copa Sudamericana win. The forward could miss two club matches as a result.
According to Globo.com, head coach Carlos Queiroz named 23 players drawn from the domestic league and European clubs, including under-23s set for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The game is in Mexico and falls outside a FIFA window, so clubs are not obliged to release players.
Grêmio initially said it would assess the situation internally, then minutes later posted his call-up and confirmed he would take part in the Mexico friendly.
The Tricolor face Palestino on 20 in the Sudamericana and Santos on 23 in the Brasileirão, and may be without the attacker for both, the dates closest to the friendly.
Born in Ghana, Amuzu moved to Belgium as a child, where he grew up, turned professional and made his senior debut. He also represented Belgium at youth level and has recently said he dreams of playing a World Cup for Ghana.
He returned from a right ankle injury in the 3-0 win over Riestra in the Sudamericana. Amuzu won the penalty converted by Carlos Vinicius, scored one and provided an assist.
