The future of Joshua Zirkzee at Manchester United already appears to be sealed. The Dutch striker, who has been starved of playing time since his arrival in 2024, has reportedly given the go-ahead to join AS Roma, according to several Italian media outlets. The Roman club is pushing for a loan deal with an option to buy, which would become mandatory if they qualify for the next Champions League. Zirkzee, who started on Monday for the first time under Rúben Amorim, "failed to impress," according to sources close to him.

The 24-year-old sees this departure as a chance to revive a career that stalled at Old Trafford.

"I want to get back on the pitch and find an environment that suits me," he reportedly told sources familiar with the deal.

His wish? To return to Italy, where he shone at Bologna with 14 goals and 9 assists in 54 matches, and above all, to play under Gian Piero Gasperini, whom he has long admired.

Because in Manchester, the situation has become untenable. Despite a transfer fee of more than €42 million and a contract running until 2029, Zirkzee hasn't scored a single goal this season, limited to just 180 minutes in the Premier League. AS Roma thus emerges as the perfect escape route for a player hoping to finally prove his worth at the highest level.
