Necaxa had a golden opportunity to open the scoring in the 25th minute after Chivas defender Jesús Sánchez was adjudged to have committed a hand ball in the area.

The Flock were let off the hook, however, as Alejandro Zendejas missed the target from the spot.

Chivas took the lead when Alexis Vega drove into Necaxa territory before finding Jesús Ricardo Angulo, who in turn set Isaác Brizuela up to finish off a superb counter-attack.

But the visitors levelled early in the second half with a goal that could and should have been avoided. Not enough pressure was put on Luis García before his effort from outside the area bounced past goalkeeper Raúl Gudiño and in off the upright.

It looked like Chivas would fail to win yet again until the fifth minute of stoppage time when Agustín Oliveros pulled down Alejandro Mayorga in the area.

Zaldívar’s initial spot kick was saved, only for VAR to rule that goalkeeper Luis Malagón had strayed from his line.

The Chivas striker made no mistake with the re-take to give Los Rojiblancos their first home win of the Apertura season and lift them up to 10th in the table on an evening of high drama at the Estadio Akron.
