Angers midfielder Pierrick Capelle and Clermont’s Johan Gastien, both 38, have been elected as municipal councillors in the first round.

L'Équipe reports that Capelle was re-elected in Saint-Léger-de-Linières, Maine-et-Loire, placed 19th on the sole slate presented by outgoing mayor Franck Poquin.

The list, titled "Vivre ensemble, agir pour tous", polled 1,341 votes, with abstention at 50.1 per cent.

In 2020, Capelle had been the only active professional footballer elected in the municipal elections, a status he will not hold in the next term.

A political novice, Gastien was elected in Sayat, Puy-de-Dôme, where he has lived for two years with his partner and their two daughters. He has spent eight seasons with Clermont in Ligue 2.

He stood seventh on the list led by Sébastien Besnard, "Demain se dessine ensemble", which won 67.49 per cent and will hold 20 seats on the council.
