Blues have been in talks with Rennes over a deal for the talented central defender
Rennes boss Habib Beye says Jeremy Jacquet is “laser-focused” amid links to Chelsea but admits “anything can happen” before the January transfer window closes.
Jacquet has emerged as a target for Chelsea this month as new head coach Liam Rosenior seeks to bolster his squad for the second half of the season.
In addition to Jacquet, Standard Sport understands that a new midfielder and attacker are also being considered by the Blues either before the February 2 deadline or in the summer.
Jacquet, a France U21 international, is understood to want a move to Stamford Bridge to go ahead if a deal can be agreed.
While an agreement has not yet been struck, Standard Sport understands transfer fee breakdowns have been discussed during informal conversations between the clubs.
After serving a suspension, Jacquet is set to return to action for Rennes at the weekend as they take on Lorient at home in Ligue 1.
Amid suggestions that it could be a farewell Roazhon Park appearance for the 20-year-old, Beye has stressed his desire for Rennes to retain their best players, but conceded he does not have the final say when it comes to transfers.
“There are still a few days left in the transfer window; anything can happen,” Beye said in the pre-match press conference.
“We need things to be as calm as possible.“

Rosenior, meanwhile, refused to comment on speculation linking Jacquet with a move to Chelsea prior to the Champions League win over Pafos in midweek.
Though, the Blues head coach has stressed that any new signing has to make a “clear impact” on the team.
“I've been really clear on this: I don't want to bring in players that don't enhance the group or the chemistry that we're building,” Rosenior said.
“So we have to be very selective at this stage of the season. If we do bring in the right player in a certain position, they have to have a clear impact on the team.”
