Algeria kicked off their 2025 Arab Cup campaign in a way that fell short of their ambitions. Reduced to ten men after Adam Ounas was sent off in the 45th minute, the Greens were unable to break the deadlock against Sudan, settling for a frustrating 0-0 draw as they began their title defense. A cautious start that already leaves a lingering sense of unfinished business.

In the group’s other fixture, Iraq got their campaign off to a flying start, overcoming Bahrain 2-1 to take a well-deserved lead at the top of the table. That victory immediately puts pressure on Madjid Bougherra’s men.

In Group D’s standings, Iraq sits atop with 3 points, followed by Algeria and Sudan with 1 point each, while Bahrain trails with zero. The Greens will need a swift response to avoid complicated calculations later on.
